Lucky: A New Family Member

Meet Lucky!
He's the newest member of our family. We like him, we think he likes us too.
We picked him up from the shelter Monday night and decided to take him on a walk of the neighborhood so he knows who he lives around. Even the neighbor kids were excited to see him.
He did and awesome job on his first walk. He really wanted to just pull Shawn and take off, but with a bit of help from Shawn, he learned to walk along side us. He gets really excited to see other animals, kids and people in general.

The kids were so super excited to finally have a dog of their own, they stayed out playing with him and didn't get to bed till 10pm. Pretty unheard of in our family for the kids to stay out that late, but how can you tell them to go to bed when they just got their first pet?
We got the pool out yesterday and the kids were so excited. We filled as we ate lunch and then they all jumped in, Lucky included. He loved the water, didn't like being splashed so much though.
Paige took some time warming up to Lucky, but she now loves him, with a bit a of reserve because he is bigger than her. They played all day with lucky. When it was quiet time Paige and Mason took a nap. Lucky should have taken a nap also, but Emma had him all over the place. She just couldn't stay in and leave him alone.

After naps were over, the kids from next door came to see Lucky and played with him. We know he likes to play fetch with sticks, ropes, bones, and frisbees, a little football, but not a round ball. He likes to have his tummy scratched and likes to sit in your lap. We think that Lucky came from a home where they let him be in the house, but at our house, he isn't. It has been hard on him not being able to come in and play, but I don't want to clean all the hair out of my carpets, clothing and off the floor. Generally speaking, he is a great first dog.
He got to go to work with Shawn this morning. He is reserved about getting in cars, and it took Shawn pushing him up and into the car to get him in. It was so cute to see him claim the front seat and not the floor. He got neutered today. Guess that is a sad reason to spend the day at work with Shawn, but he'll be fine in no time. We are happy we got to play with him yesterday while he felt good, cause he's not going to be feeling like himself when he comes home today.

Yes, it is perfect that a Doctor of animals have his own pet, it just took us some time to get ready to do this.
He is so good and has a lot of energy, but that is good for all kids.
