We had the special opportunity to attend Mason's Class "Special" Olympics for Young Children. They held the Olympics in the High School Gym and so on the way to the Gym ( the HS is next door to the Preschool) we all got in one line and followed Teacher Megan through the HS.
Just outside the gym, we were waiting for a Gym class to end. We were given t-shirts which all said "Special Olympics". As we waiting the teachers sang songs with the kids to keep them contained and happy. It was really great to see how the teachers interact with the students. You can tell that each of these Children are someone special to these teachers and not just another kids who needs help.
As we got ready to enter the gym, they started playing the Olympics Theme music. We all gathered in the center of the gym and Mr. B, from the Special Olympics gave us some instruction.
We first walked around the gym, just like athletes. We then all lined up on the black line in the middle of the gym and split up into two teams. Then we went and played the games.
Mason learned to throw a ball through a circle.
I know that we sure had fun, and that the kids really enjoyed themselves. The kids were each given a gold medal and a fruit snack. We walked back to the preschool and the kids had lunch. Shawn, Emma and I left just before lunch to get our sleeping Paige at a friends house.
