July: Camping at Moon Lake, Utah

Every year since Mason was 1 we have gone camping. Everyone enjoys it. Everyone looks forward to our camping trip, and this year was no exception. This year was actually better than years past cause we have a whole week to leave town and take a break from the daily grind. It was heavenly! We went to Moon Lake, which is about 45 minutes north of Duchesne, Utah.

The kids found new toys playing with buckets, sticks, rocks, sap, dirt and sand.

We went fishing and all the kids caught something, all too small to keep though. Mason's fish was maybe 5 inches long, he thought it was great to put it back anyway. He spent the rest of this fishing time playing on the rocks.

Paige caught the biggest fish, we actually kept it, but in the process of not catching anything, we forgot to gut it and it went bad. Paige loved touching her fish and checking on it to make sure it was still on our line.

Emma caught a fish, but we put it back. It was small also. At least she caught one.

Shawn spent 3 hours one morning fishing and didn't even get a bit. We didn't meet anyone who actually caught some fish but we talked to some people to talked to some people who caught 20? I question that. The fishing wasn't good at the time we were there and we were disappointed.

The views were breathtaking. It was so beautiful here. The weather was interesting. The morning time it was clear and there was no wind. Right after noon, the high clouds moved in and the wind started. It made for some undesirable swimming. The lake was cold, and the wind made it even colder. I think that Mason was the only one who went in chest deep besides Shawn and I. We were crazy enough to go under and then freeze afterwards.

One of the days we were there we rented a little motor boat in the afternoon. Not even 10 minutes into the ride Paige was sitting upright and sleeping. After the picture was taken I picked her up, held her on my lap and she slept that way for 30 -45 minutes. We wore her out.

Shawn let Emma try her hand at driving the boat. She thought it was great. But anytime she is in control, she is all for it.

We stopped at a little beach and played. The wind really picked up and the sun went behind some clouds and it got pretty chilly and I was wishing that I had on my pants.

The kids on the other hand didn't care. They loved playing in the sand and looking for treasures to "remember this day always".

Around the lake there are a few trails. We walked on a few different nights and had fun "hiking". The kids would always have a lot of energy so we would have to work at keeping up with them.

The last night we were there, we went on a hike and went up to some rocks that Shawn saw while out fishing in our little raft. The kids had so much fun there throwing rocks into the water and seeing who could get the bigger splash.

We think that we lucked out again this year and really got the best camp site in the whole camp ground. It was much bigger than most the other sites, but it also had ample shade. We only had sun on the picnic table in the morning and that is when you want it on the table.

The tent was nestled between the trees and kept it shaded well for Paige's nap time in the afternoon. It also protected the tent from getting wet when it rained, but it didn't rain long so nothing got really wet.

I don't know if we will ever return to Moon Lake cause we would like to see other parts of Utah, but if we ran out of places to visit, we would return cause it was a good place to camp.
