We waited until the day before Halloween to carve the pumpkins. We used them to decorate our trunk for the Ward Trunk or Treat that night.
Mason wasn't so sure that he wanted to do anything with the pumpkin. Shawn was really good helping him and he showed a lot more interest in carving than the cleaning out...but who wouldn't?
Emma asked us all month long if it was time to carve the pumpkins. She was so excited. Daddy helped her clean it out using the power drill with the kitchen beater attached. It worked really well, and Emma had fun using Daddy's tool. She chose the shapes of the eyes, nose and mouth. When Daddy said it was done, she was so distraught that it didn't have ears, they had to add ears. Both pumpkins look wonderful, and most of all, Emma and Mason sure had fun doing this activity with their Daddy. We sure are loving having him home with us:)

Emma, Mason, Paige and Mommy's pumpkins (Mommy and Paige shared a pumpkin) after being carved. Daddy was still working on his...

Daddy, the Ghost! Emma, Princess Aurora and Mason, Mickey Mouse. All dressed up for the Ward Trunk of Treat. Jodi went with Shawn and the kids also, she was dressed as a clown.

The Pumpkins in the trunk of the Van for our decorations. Shawn's is a headless horse man. It took him much longer to carve than the rest of us, who did a face.
