On Our Way

As the frustration in our home just got worse, we decided that there was something more that could be done to help Mason learn to communicate. He knows what he wants, we know what we want, and neither we nor him knew how to tell each other. I am sure Mason understands more than he lets on, but how are we to know? At his 2 year check up, our Dr. suggested getting in touch with Early Learning Services to do some assessments to see if he was in need of help, or just being lazy in learning to talk. Back in May, they came to our home and did the first of 3 assessments. The results we exactly what I felt they would be. He is behind is age development for language by almost 1 year, and His Cognitive level was equally as low. These both go hand in hand, and we started speech therapy. After 3 weeks of speech therapy alone, we added one day on interactive class room time at the Early Learning Services (ELS). He goes to ELS on Mondays, from 9am to 12pm. He has some interactive time with the speech therapist during play time, and he is also getting A LOT better with his attention span. We have noticed in the 2 months we have been at this, that is vocabulary has doubled, or more, and the tension in our home has almost disappeared. We meet with all those involved with his therapy 2 time a month, and we also have a home visit with the speech therapist once a week. He is young, but the little helps that these ladies have given us has really changed how we try to help Mason.

He knows so much, and we see it come out as we work with him, and then sit back and watch him as he does his thing!

On a Monday Morning~ off to school. Notice Emma's has to carry a back pack also. I do preschool with her at home while Mason is at ELS.
Mason really enjoys going to ELS. He has no trouble leaving me, and is really happy to see me when I come back to get him. He is there at the center for Breakfast( although he eats at home before he leaves), carpet time, reading, art time (which is playing with sand at the indoor sand box, or playing with playdou) then they go out side, and end his day with Lunch. I choose to only have him there for on half a day a week, cause I want to be apart of his learning, and have him home. I only have them home until they start school, and would like to be a key player in the learning until then. We may add one more day and end the home visits after Paige is born, but until then, Mason will get the one day a week.
