Vet School Open House

Saturday, April 12, 2008
Every year on the same weekend as Mom's weekend (usually the 2nd weekend of April) the vet school holds an open house. All the students in different clubs put together a display and open the main hall to the hospital for the public to come and see what the students are learning, and what Veterinary Medicine is all about. They have candy bowls at almost every table and they hand our flowers to all the moms. The have a horse and a cow in shoots on display that they paint the anatomy of the animal on the outside and the kids love seeing the animals with paint on. One of the booths did face painting, and Emma choose the same thing as she did last year:
A Horse:

I am sure that some day Mason may hold still long enough to have his face painted also!
The Class of 2009 (Shawn's class) did a dress up like a surgon! They provided everything from caps to booties. The students helped the kids dress, and they gave all the stuff to the kids to keep. We brought this home in hope that they would join the dress up clothes!
The face mask was the first to come back off!
From there we went and saw the Raptor's club. They had about 4 birds sitting on purches, or on the hands of the club members. They had a little owl sitting on a purch in the center of the table.
The bird pictured is a hawk.
As we took this picture, Mason decided to "try" Emma's painted horse. She didn't like him touching her.
And now he knows it wasn't chocolate! YUCK!
This was the first year in 3 that Shawn didn't sign up to be attending to a booth. We had fun attending the open house as a family, instead of Mom taking the kids and trying to find Dad to say hi. It was a lot more enjoyable.
Next year you should make it a point to try and come and see what Shawn has been up to these last few years! :)
